Context

The "Dampremy Quartier Nature" project is part of a strategy to rethink Charleroi's green spaces, and is based around two green corridors designed to improve the neighbourhood. The team has drawn up a multi-dimensional analysis and a landscape design proposal. The first corridor is currently divided into several unconnected areas in this historic district, stretching from "Parc Elio Ivan" in the north to "plage de la confluence". The aim is to enhance and link these areas, integrating them into the socio-spatial context of the district.

Mission

CityTool's mission is to take charge of the various stages of participation, in close collaboration with the inhabitants, users and stakeholders in the district, including the City of Charleroi's participation department. The aim is to find out more about their realities, needs and wishes. Drawing on previous participatory initiatives undertaken by the City, CityTools has been able to identify the types of intervention that are necessary, useful or desirable, working with MDP on the project to make it as tailored as possible to the needs of local residents.

Approach

A wide-ranging social diagnosis was carried out in the field, in various forms, directly in the neighbourhood and its surroundings, both during a neighbours' party and at different times of presence, observations of usage and spontaneous interviews. More structured meetings were then held with local stakeholders (neighbourhood committees, associations and social projects), to find out their views on the spaces and their ideas for the future. These findings fed into the work on the preliminary project.
